The Pilgrym: Ehret Filipovic, Chief Bibliognost of the Church of the Red Athenæum

The Chief Bibliognost and the Chronicler of the Church of the Red Athenæum

With less than a month before the Pilgrym event, I wanted to start showing some of the final few members of the Church of the Red Athenæum that will be going to Nottingham.  Today, I will focus on the leader of the Church’s Librarian Guild, the organization within the Church that tends to all the scholarly pursuits of the Church and cares for all of its holy relics.  I present to you Ehret Filipovic, Chief Bibliognost.

Like the other members of the Church, Ehret is missing some appendages, an arm and one of his eyes.

Ehret  Filipovic, Chief Bibliognost of the Church of the Red Athenæum
Since its foundation, the Church has placed great emphasis on recorded history; particularly pertaining to the ideals that the Great Crusade was built upon, ones that faltered during the dark days of the Horus Heresy. One of the Church’s primary concerns is deciphering the Will and Vision that drove the Emperor's Great Crusade. This Imperial Truth died with the Emperor’s mortal frame, and was replaced with superstition and the vain political maneuvering of the High Lords of Terra. A Librarian Guild exists within the Church which occupies itself with uncovering as much knowledge of this time and the principles that ruled it, such that the Church might more accurately espouse His principles. They prize the works and recordings of Remembrancers from the early days of the Crusade, which champion the Emperor's thinking and ideals. They also search for accounts of the final duel that ended the Heresy, the fight that brought their savior to His knees and ushered in an Age of Suffering. With this knowledge, they can more accurately live out His suffering.

Ehret Filipovic, Chief Bibliognost, is the longest serving member of the Librarian Guild. More than nearly any other person on Terra, save select members of the Ordo Scriptorium, he knows of the Emperor’s final hours walking amongst the Imperium. Few were at the Emperor’s side during this final battle, there are, however, many accounts of what took place. Many of these tales are conflicting, and the events have largely elevated to myth. Filipovic is an expert and scholar on the subject and continues to explore the dread turning point for the Imperium. He knows of the bloodletting and the butchery, the fall of the angel Primarch, and the fall of the Hope for humanity. These details will not be forgotten; they are details that will drive every facet of the Church's existence, for suffering is paramount if they are to follow in His footsteps.

Ehret carries around a ancient bolt pistol from the era of the Great Crusade; they do not have bolts for the firearm, but it is carried as a symbol of divine retribution.

I hope you like how Ehret turned out!  I must say I am quite pleased with him, and think he fits nicely alongside all the other members of the Church.  Let me know what you all think!

  1. Each one of these figures is a story within themselves. It is just amazing to fit such character into models like this. Very awesome!

    1. Thanks you for the kind words, and I am glad you are enjoying the narrative elements. With the project, we really wanted to create a band of characters, each with a place, and not just a bunch of “cool figures.” I cannot wait to continue to add more to the group in the coming months!
